Suki's Salon & Spa Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Designed 1986, with Nick Milkovich An entirely new 7,000 square foot building was designed for Suki's to house a hairdressing salon, spa, and beauty college. The restrictive nature of the long, narrow lot (27' X 120') required special considerations to overcome the tunnel effect endemic to such infill buildings. Suki's has a fresh and airy atmosphere, with exposed concrete walls which contrast with high-gloss cream and black fixtures. The double-faced mirrors were designed with Francisco Kripacz, and are edge-lit by a strip of theatrical lamps behind opaque frosted glass. The front of Suki's features a curved full-height facetted glass facade. An angular stairway on one side is a separate entrance from the street to a beauty college on the lower level.
