RCMP Heritage Centre
Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada
Designed 2003, with Nick Milkovich Architects

This museum is situated at the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Depot, the national training centre in Regina,
Saskatchewan. It houses a multimedia theatre, historical and contemporary exhibits, and an outdoor exhibit area.
The primary challenges were to create an iconic building representing the important history of the RCMP in the
development of Canada, and to respond to the site location at the RCMP Academy in Regina within the prairie
landscape. As well the building is to serve as a repository of history and will act as an educational facility to all visitors
and new trainees to the force.
The RCMP Heritage Centre represents the past of the RCMP as an object emerging from the archetypical prairie
landscape and subtle design cues have been derived from the original forts that dotted the landscape. It also
represents the present of the RCMP through the relationship with the site and the creation of an entry sequence
through a ceremonial wall that defines the Academy entrance. Also it represents the future as an iconic, modern, and
signature architectural expression of the RCMP.
