Canadian Embassy
Washington D.C., USA
Designed 1982 with Francisco Kripacz
Embassy furniture manufactured by Nienkamper
The dining room, sitting room, reception area and ambassador’s office furnishings were designed in the Erickson offices by
Francisco Kripacz. To appease the concerns of a bipartisan nature, the ambassadors office was done in the Conservative
blue and the dining room in the Liberal’s red. Between the two, the sitting room is neutral, with creamy leather and fabric
on the chairs, and a champagne-coloured carpet. The artwork was also recommended by the Erickson offices from the Art
Bank in Ottawa.
The reception area is beautifully detailed with inset wood floors, generous proportions and the simple palette of blonde
wood, blonde velvet walls, inset by horizontal bars of stainless steel and a coffered ceiling to respond handsomely to the
three separate rooms that the reception area could be converted to.
